HINDI DIVAS ON 28 September 2021

Department of Hindi, University of Kashmir is going to celebrate HINDI DIVAS on 28 September 2021

Hindi Divas is celebrated on 14th of September every year at International, National, State level to showcase the importance of the day and the Language. The day commemorates the event when Hindi was adopted as the official languages of India. The Constituent Assembly of India had espoused Hindi as India’s official language on 14th September 1949, written in Devnagri Script. It is one of the 22 designated languages of the Republic of India. The day calls for a celebration and is thus celebrated with great enthusiasm each year all around the globe. Hindi is one of the premium languages of India spoken by around 75% of the Indian Population. In 1950, it was declared that the use of English was to be put to an end, 15 years after the formation of the constitution, (by 26th January, 1965). This decision was not well taken by Non-Hindi speaking areas of India, such as South India (since their languages were not remotely similar to Hindi). Keeping this in mind, the Parliament brought into force the official languages Act 1963 which allowed the continuation of the use of English along with Hindi for official purposes after 1965.

Many events are organized in various parts of the country on the occasion of Hindi Divas to promote Hindi language. People gather around to discuss value of the language by delivering speeches and conducting various Hindi competitions. Hindi was declared as the official Language of our Country after much struggle. By the efforts of great scholars of Hindi language and Literature such as Hazari Prasaad Diwvedi, Kaka Kalelkar and Maithili Sharan Gupta, Hindi was recognized as one of the two official languages of the Country, even if India encompasses people belonging to numerous cultures and religions and each of these has its own language and Dialect.

Hindi language serves as unity in diversity. It binds our countrymen together and is a symbol of unification. Special events are organized at State, National and International level to commemorate this day. These events are a way to emphasize the Importance of Hindi Language in our Lives and also glorify it. Hindi Divas Samaroh is one of the main events organized on this day. It is a great way to bring the people of our country closer to the Hindi language as well as the rich Indian Culture.
